Film and fashion go hand-in-hand. It is our belief that costume and wardrobe designs are crucial to storytelling in film. Therefore, we are offering a platform for costume and wardrobe designers to showcase their work. Designers, submit your mood boards to showcase your work and compete for cash prizes ($250) in two categories: Best Professional Design and Best Amateur Design ! Every year we will have a theme and designers are then invited to submit their mood boards to qualify to compete. Selected designers will then be asked to create their costumes (based on the annual theme) and our youth models will model them at the festival on the runway. Guest judges will vote for winners.
2022 Scenario:
Our Mock Film is called YAHEE OF THE ICE CLAN.
After a tremendous blizzard in Northern Siberia, an injured, frost bitten “Man” is found by native reindeer herders. A visiting anthropologist, Cameron, who is studying the native tribes, realizes at once that this is no human but something else. Through tests sent back to Moscow, it is learned that “Yahee”, as he is dubbed, is a Neanderthal. Between crude communications with Yahee and stories from the local tribes about a mysterious nomadic clan that avoids contact with anyone, we learn that there are more of Yahee’s people living somewhere on the tundra.
An expedition is assembled to search for the lost Neanderthal Clan. A group of scientists and other interested parties take off in a plane to search for the Clan. The plane crashes and there are only three survivors: Yahee, Cameron, the anthropologist, and Ivan, a survival expert. Now they must find their way out of the freezing wilderness. Will they find their way to civilization or to Yahee’s clan? Or, will they survive at all?
Enter our characters:
*Note – none of these characters are gender specific. We leave that choice to the designer. *
Yahee – A Neanderthal who wears skins and/or furs in a highly practical manner. Modern technology has nothing on the time honored ways and materials for survival in this extreme environment.
Cameron – The Anthropologist who is zealous with little fear of the endeavor of traveling into the wilderness. But he is also naive, and even foolish, about charging into the unknown. Modern, even fashionable consumer outfitting, is his/her defense against the elements. It may prove to be inadequate.
Ivan (or Ivana) – Although there as a survival expert, Ivan clearly has military training. Ivan’s mission is unclear to everyone else and has a possible dark purpose. Ultra-modern and high tech survival costuming.
We are looking for creativity, both in design and use of materials to fit within a budget. We look forward to seeing your vision.
